The Davenport Community School District has a number of positive endeavors underway and a great deal of success with these.  We are fortunate to have the leader of the school district with us for our program Monday to provide us with an update on the many efforts being made in our Davenport Schools.

Julio Almanza is the Superintendent of the Davenport Copmmunity School District.  He has been in this position since 2006.  Currently he serves as Chair of the Urban Education Network, sits on the Advisory Council for the Director of Education and is a member of the Board of Educational Examiners, a Governor appointed position.

Julio has been involved in education for over 40 years.  He earned his Bachelor's Degree from DePaul University, his Master's Degree from Chicago State and his Specialist Degree from the University of Minnesota.  His career path in education has taken him to Chicago, IL, St. Paul, MN, Duluth, MN and Davenport, IA.

His work experience has always been in Urban Education.  He understands the issues facing our District and his apporach of continuous improvements have served our district well.  His understanding of City issues and their complexity were fine tuned when he was appointed Chief Administration Officer for the City of Duluth.

Julio's focus is the improvement of education services for all students in the Davenport Schools.  Focusing on preparing students for successfully meeting the challenges they face in their next career path is his passion.
