2016 Athena Award Nominees:

Tara Barney-Quad-Cities Chamber of Commerce

Maggie Tinsman-Former Iowa State Senator

Five area women, who by their example are empowering other Quad-City women to be leaders in their workplaces and communities, will be celebrated Thursday as the 2016 Athena Award Honorees.

The local award program, now in its 11th year, is presented by The Women's Connection and Quad-Cities Chamber of Commerce.

Elesha Gayman, executive director of The Women's Connection, said many of the organization's events "are about bringing in successful women from all over the world" as guest speakers to inspire Quad-City women. This event is about showcasing what we already have here — the talented women who are making this community what we are."
