"Iowa: Creating Healthy Soils, Clean Water & Rural Development."
Jan. 22, 2018
Craig Lang, a Poweshiek County dairy farmer who has served as president of the Iowa Farm Bureau Financial during one of its most-challenging eras, is a Republican candidate for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture. He and his two sons, who are the family’s sixth generation of farmers, milk a 700-head dairy herd, farm 1,200 acres and run a cow/calf beef operation. Lang was one of the longest serving leaders of both the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, where he served as president from 2001 through 2011, and the FBL Financial Group, where he served as chairman of the board for a concurrent term. He also was chairman of the Grow Iowa Values Fund and, under Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack, vice chair of the Iowa Economic Development Board. In addition to being a family farmer, Lang is president of The Prairie Strategy Group, a company engaged in identifying and solving complex challenges in food production, policy and logistics. Lang is recognized nationally and internationally as a consultant for rural economic development, consensus and opportunity building. He and his wife, Mary, have four grown children and three grandchildren. |

Wellness in the Workplace
Apr. 02, 2018
Jenni Venema Swanson has been a resident of the Quad Cities for over 32 years. She is a certified fitness instructor licensed in both Illinois and Iowa. She teaches 6-8 classes per week in East Moline and Bettendorf.
During the past year, Jenni has looked at how the workplace affects worker wellness. She has researched how employees work, their work postures and work productivity and discovered ways to improve all three.
Putting her knowledge of fitness and wellness together with workplace reality, she has discovered ways to improve workplace wellness in the daily work schedule.
Research is proving that sitting all day is not healthy. “I used to sit at a desk all day long, that was not helping me, so I looked at how to improve my wellness at work”.
Simple fixes will make all the difference in your wellbeing and your productivity.

Apr. 28, 2018
Here are just a few key details about the event and the nationwide initiative: Website to access information on the program, instructions on how to sign up to volunteer and/or if in need of a smoke alarm (for this event and ongoing): redcross.org/csil-homefire Sound the Alarm: Every day, seven people die in home fires, most in homes that lack working smoke alarms. Sadly, children and the elderly disproportionately lose their lives. The American Red Cross wants to improve the odds and save lives, that’s why the American Red Cross launched the Home Fire Campaign – a nationwide initiative in 2014. A critical part of the campaign is Sound the Alarm, a series of home fire safety and smoke alarm installation events across the country. Between April 28, 2018 and May 13, 2018, the goal is to install more than 100,000 smoke alarms across the country. Red Cross volunteers, along with fire departments and other partners canvass at-risk neighborhoods, installing free smoke alarms, replacing batteries in existing alarms, and providing fire prevention and safety education. Local QCA Event: Saturday, April 28, 2018
