Smith grew up in a musical family in Phoenix, AZ where he began the serious study of conducting while still in his teens. He is a graduate in cello performance of the Juilliard School, where he studied with Claus Adam, and of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied conducting with Max Rudolf and Otto-Werner Mueller. While at Curtis, Smith was first-prize winner in the National Repertory Orchestra Conductors Competition, and upon graduation, was named Assistant Conductor of the Opera Company of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Singers. From 1989 to 1994, Smith served as Associate Conductor of the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra and from 1992 through 1999 served as Music Director of the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra. His dynamic personality, creative programming, and focus on outreach helped revitalize the Springfield (MA) Symphony, where he served as Music Director from 1995 through 2000. Smith resides in Minneapolis, where his wife Ellen Dinwiddie Smith is a horn player with the Minnesota Orchestra. They have two sons, Alexander and Noah. More at markrussellsmith.net. |

Kyle Carter is director of the Downtown Davenport Partnership with the Quad-Cities Chamber of Commerce. He grew up in Canton, Ill., moving to the Quad-Cities in 2000 to attend St. Ambrose University, Davenport, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing/public relations. His volunteer work includes vice president, Midcoast Fine Arts board of directors; vice chairman, Freight House Farmers Market; and a member of YMCA advisory board. |

Engage Iowa

Ron Corbett is in his seventh year as mayor, leading Cedar Rapids to an amazing recovery that includes strong job and population growth along with stable tax rates. Ron also is a Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow. His latest venture is the non-profit Engage Iowa, a think tank helping to engage Iowans in discussion about common sense solutions to Iowa’s most serious economic, educational and environmental issues. Ron is the found & the President of Engage Iowa.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Marycrest College, Davenport. Post Graduate Work in Non-Profit Management, St. Ambrose University, Davenport. Family: Kim is married to Rick Brackey. She has three adult stepchildren and six grandchildren from 4 to 13 years old. Kim and Rick reside in Durant, Iowa with their two Golden Retrievers, Harley & Ella.
Previous Positions: Kim spent 14 years at United Way of the Quad Cities Area, where she served as President from 1995-2004. She was instrumental in increasing annual funds raised by 30% as well as launching many successful community initiatives, including Contributor Choice; Outcomes Measurement for funded programs; the Community Partnership Grant Fund and the nationally-recognized Success By 6 initiative. |
